01E Security Officer Core Subjects

Course Time: 18 Hours
An “Unarmed security officer” means a natural person who performs the function of observation, detection, reporting, or notification of appropriate authorities or designated agents regarding persons or property on the premises he is contracted to protect, and who does not carry or have access to a firearm in the performance of his duties.” (Source: DCJS Administrative Code 6 VAC 20-171-10)

- Security Patrol, Access Control, and Communications – 2 hours
- Documentation – 4 hours
- Emergency Procedures – 4 hours
- Confrontation Management – 2 hours
To register in the state of Virginia as an Unarmed Security Officer, you must meet the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice guidelines, satisfactorily complete the 01E course (or 01I for In-Service registrants) with a grade of 70% or greater and submit the appropriate DCJS fees and forms which will be explained during the administration portion of the course.
01I Unarmed Security Officer In-Service
Course Time: 4 Hours
Unarmed Security Officer In-Service training must be completed every 24 months, prior to expiration.
As with the entry level course, all appropriate DCJS forms and fees must be submitted to successfully re-qualify as an Unarmed Security Officer.
