school security safety

Career Diploma and Certification

The use of private security, and private or special police personnel to patrol educational facilities including elementary and high schools and post-secondary colleges and universities is not a new practice but it is a growing segment of the security industry and requires additional specific training for all officers assigned to a school or campus of any type. While most states do offer a basic required training course for registered security officers, only a few provide advanced level or campus security officer training even though providing security services in this environment is much more challenging and different than most other security clients.

This is why we have designed a very intense, structured and in depth training for campus officers.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Role and Responsibility of School Security Officer
  • Access Control
  • Use of Technology
  • Juvenile Crimes
  • Mediation / Conflict Resolution
  • Disasters and Emergencies
  • Dynamics of Student Behavior
  • Student Drug Use

  • Sex Crimes
  • Arrest Authority
  • Search Authority
  • Active Shooter
  • Control Techniques
  • Use of Force
  • Criminal / Civil Laws
  • Court Testimony

Typical Tasks

Officers patrol campuses and enforce regulations and certain local and state laws while assisting administrators in keeping the peace and providing a safe and secure environment for students to learn in.

Potential Positions

Private and public safety school officers are being employed by public and private schools, charter and tribal primary and secondary educational institutions across the nation.

Employment Outlook

All levels of schools and colleges are employing both armed and unarmed, sworn and non-sworn personnel in light of recent active shooter and workplace situations. With this increase there will be broad opportunities for full-time, temporary and part-time work. Virtually all job openings will stem from permanent position openings while some may stem from those who go to different occupations or leave the labor force.
