DCJS 08E Shotgun

The DCJS 08E Entry-level Shotgun training course is a basic shotgun handling course that will consist of the following curriculum:

  • Shotgun handling
  • Types of slings
  • Carry positions
  • Chambering
  • Reloading
  • Transition to sidearm
  • Malfunctions
  • Care and maintenance
  • Shotgun retention
  • Safety
  • Dim/low light shooting
  • Fundamentals of shooting

Course Time: 3 Hours

“Firearms training endorsement is required for all private security services business personnel who carry or have immediate access to a firearm while on duty. Each person who carries or has immediate access to firearms on duty shall qualify with each type of action and caliber of firearm to which he has access.” (Source: DCJS Administrative Code 6 VAC 20-171-365)

“An “Armed security officer” means a natural person employed to (i) safeguard and protect persons and property or (ii) deter theft, loss, or concealment of any tangible or intangible personal property on the premises he is contracted to protect, and who carries or has access to a firearm in the performance of his duties.”  (Source: DCJS Administrative Code 6 VAC 20-171-10)

Registration: To register in the State of Virginia as an Armed Security Guard, you must meet the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice guidelines, satisfactorily complete the 01E, 05E and 07E courses ( 08E-Shotgun Training is optional) with a grade of 70% or greater for 01E and 05E, and 75% or greater for 07E (and 08E if taking) and submit the appropriate DCJS fees and forms which will be explained during the administration portion of the course.

DCJS 08R – Shotgun Re-qualification

 

Course Time: 3 Hours
 
Classroom Retraining or Practical Exercises – 3 hours

 

“All armed private security services business personnel must satisfactorily complete four hours of firearms classroom training or practical exercises and range training, and re-qualify as prescribed in  6VAC20-171-370 for handgun and 6VAC20-171-380 for shotgun, if applicable, on an annual basis prior to the issuance of the Firearms Endorsement.” (Source: DCJS Administrative Code 6 VAC 20-171-400)
